Cox Names Joiava Philpott Senior Vice President, General Counsel

ATLANTA, December 4, 2020 – Cox Communications has promoted Joiava Philpott to senior vice president of law and policy and general counsel for the company. In this role, she’ll be responsible for overseeing compliance, legal operations, regulatory and government affairs.

Philpott has served as Cox’s vice president of regulatory affairs for the past eight years where she established policy positions for various state regulatory proceedings and created new collaborative teams to support operational improvements.

“Joiava brings a great combination of senior counsel experience and deep industry knowledge that are great assets as she guides the company through a changing regulatory environment at a time when broadband connectivity is needed more than ever,” said Len Barlik, executive vice president and chief operations officer.

Prior to joining Cox, Philpott held positions of general counsel at Astro Turf, LLC and corporate vice president of government affairs at Charter Communications.

Philpott holds a JD and MBA from American University and a bachelor’s degree in business management from Hampton University. She’s completed an executive leadership program at the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government, is a Betsy Magness Leadership Institute fellow for Women in Cable & Telecommunications (WICT) and is an Executive Leadership Development Program alum of the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC).
