Mark Gathen

Mark Gathen is senior vice president of content acquisition at Cox Communications. With over 25 years of experience in the cable television and advanced video industries, he has seen firsthand how consumer demand for video products and video entertainment content has evolved. In his current role, Mark leads content negotiations for linear networks (including OTT, VOD and TV Everywhere), DTC applications, subscription VOD, and digital video carriage across all Cox platforms. Prior to his current position in content acquisition, Mark successfully managed key video initiatives at Cox including launching digital/HD video, VOD, DVR and expanding video platform features and functionality. He also was an industry leader in TV Everywhere strategy, design and product launches allowing Cox to be a trailblazer in that emerging video category and earning a CTAM Rainmaker Award. Always looking ahead to “what’s next”, he partners with traditional networks and emerging content providers to define new video product opportunities for the digital marketplace. Before joining Cox, Mark worked on new media strategy and innovation projects at The Weather Channel, where he was on the forefront of next generation development including the launch of weather.com. A recipient of two US patents focused on video technology, Mark received his master's degree in management from Georgia Tech and holds a bachelor's degree in television & radio communications from Ithaca College.
