Cox Communications Recognized for Delivering Affordable Internet Services to Underserved Populations

These recognitions by BroadbandNOW and Cablefax underscore the company’s unwavering commitment to making high-quality internet services more affordable for underserved communities across the U.S.

ATLANTA − Sept. 25, 2024 − Cox Communications has received two awards for delivering reliable, high-quality, and low-cost internet services to underserved communities in the U.S. These awards also recognize Cox's efforts to expand the reach of its services to rural areas.

One Big Thing

BroadbandNOW named Cox a 2024 Digital Inclusion Award winner, with special distinction in Affordability. Similarly, Cablefax named Cox its Broadband Affordability Advocate winner.

Zooming In

BroadbandNOW recognizes Cox’s efforts to provide affordable internet access, ensure digital literacy and provide device accessibility to the communities it serves. In response to the end of the federally funded Affordable Connectivity Program, Cox proactively informed customers about alternative affordable options, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining connectivity for vulnerable populations.

Similarly, Cablefax honors Cox for reducing barriers to broadband internet access. Cablefax credits Cox’s continued efforts for more than a decade to drive greater digital inclusion with the Connect2Compete and ConnectAssist programs.

  • The Connect2Compete provides low-cost internet for qualifying families with K-12 children
  • ConnectAssist is an affordable internet option for qualifying individuals.

Partnerships are key to our success in bridging the digital divide.

  • Since 2021, we’ve partnered with Malcolm Mitchell to raise awareness about affordable internet.
  • Our local community partners across healthcare, education, non-profit and private sectors help expand our reach and ability to connect those who need it.
  • This year, Cox and BGCA are celebrating a 20-year milestone.  Since 2004, we have partnered together to open 100+ state-of-the-art Cox Innovation Labs packed with innovative technology in Clubs across the nation.

These awards highlight Cox’s exceptional efforts in closing the digital divide by delivering affordable internet services to underserved communities , ensuring people can get and stay connected. Our efforts further cement Cox’s position as a leader and advocate for digital inclusion.

The Why

“Driving digital equity stems from our heritage and culture at Cox,” said Mark Greatrex, president of Cox Communications. “We are dedicated to helping people have access to  internet connectivity because we know it drives prosperity through education and career opportunity.””

What’s Ahead

Cox will continue its mission of advancing digital inclusion through several initiatives, such as:

  • Amplifying Cox’s affordable internet solutions, like Connect2Compete and ConnectAssist, to keep families connected as students head back to school
  • Promoting Cox Mobile and its affordable, reliable mobile services with data plan and device options for the entire family
  • Partnering with Malcolm Mitchell to promote his new book, A World Within Reach, and travel throughout the country to visit several Cox markets
