Cox Expands Home Security
Additional market deployments to begin this year; Vince Groff appointed general manager of Cox Home Security

ATLANTA, Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Adding to its comprehensive portfolio of communications services including high speed Internet, cable TV and phone, Cox Communications now offers Home Security to customers to help keep their loved ones and homes safe. Cox started piloting the new product in Arizona last year and plans to begin launching additional markets in 2012.

Cox Home Security provides advanced features not found in most traditional alarm systems with time-saving, cost-saving, and worry-saving features to help customers manage their family's safety. The reliable, 24/7 secure monitoring systems feature:

  • Intrusion and home safety monitoring (includes fire, gas and flood)
  • Remote access so the system can be controlled away from home via a secure online site or Smartphone app
  • Email/Text alerts to notify customers of occurrences at the home
  • Safety sensors to detect hazardous conditions such as carbon monoxide and smoke
  • Secure video monitoring available via smart phone or a web browser
  • Control of home functions such as lighting and temperature

"Customers trust Cox each day to connect them to the things they care about. For most people, home and family are at the top of that list. Cox Home Security is a natural extension of the communications services we deliver," said Asheesh Saksena, executive vice president and chief strategy officer.

One of Cox's competitive advantages with this product is the ability to offer to customers through a Cox bundle. With the addition of home security services, all of a customer's Cox services will appear on one bill. Cox Home Security is another example of how the company will continue to explore new ways to grow and offer products and services to customers how, when and where they want them.

As Cox moves to the next stage of deployment, the company has appointed Vince Groff to the new role of general manager of this new business. Groff led the initial Cox Home Security development and trial execution and will now be responsible for the broader roll out and ongoing management of this new business.

Groff joined Cox in 2000 and was a director of video product development before his promotion to executive director of new growth and development. Vince began his career in systems engineering at Delta Air Lines, and also spent time in strategy consulting and venture capital before coming to Cox. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Duke University.

"Cox Home Security is consistent with our desire to deliver solutions that meet the individual and unique needs of each customer," said Groff. "One home may require a video camera near their pool for safety reasons. Another family may want text message alerts sent when children arrive home from school. No two installations are exactly alike."
