Cox Communications Offers New Home Network Security Check
Applet provides free and easy security check for residential Internet customers

ATLANTA - Cox Communications today announced an easy-to-use Home Network Security Check, available to all of its residential high speed Internet customers at no additional charge. The Security Check web applet quickly assesses the security of the customer’s wireless home network and makes appropriate recommendations.

“Just as you lock the doors to your home, wireless Internet users need to lock their home networks,” said Seth Hogan, Cox’s vice president of data product strategy & management. “Home Network Security Check from Cox is a free and easy way to ensure your home network is secure. It takes just a few minutes, and helps avoid the headaches associated with unauthorized users accessing your home network.”

Without a secure network, unauthorized users can:

·       Infect your computer with viruses and spam

·       Steal your Internet service, slowing your Internet connection

·       Perform illegal activities through your personal network and make you appear responsible

It only takes a few minutes to conduct a security audit with Cox’s new Security Check. Because it is a web applet, there is no software to download. The user-friendly interface displays directions written in layman’s terms, including buttons that read “Get Started” and “Fix it now.” The results of the Security Check are displayed along with an image of a wireless device with green, yellow or red lights indicating good security, weak security or a network with no security enabled.

“Cox is known for delivering some of the best broadband speeds in the marketplace. Now, we’re turning our attention to delivering the best broadband in the home, by making home networks more secure and keeping our customers safe online,” said Hogan. “Home continues to be the most popular place to access the Internet, and Cox High Speed Internet customers can be assured that they have the tools they need to enjoy their wireless home networks safely and efficiently.”

Customers can take advantage of the new Home Network Security Check by logging onto Internet tools at www.cox.com/myconnection.
