ENGLEWOOD, Colo., May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Evolving Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: EVOL), a leading provider of next generation telecom OSS and wireless data software solutions, today announced an agreement to provide local number portability (LNP) software and support to Cox Communications, Inc. (NYSE: COX), the nation's fifth largest cable television company and a leader in broadband services.

"Evolving Systems continues to be the first resource for top-tier telecom companies like Cox looking to leverage existing resources to support continued growth," said Jim Ross, president and chief operating officer of Evolving Systems. "The companies that survive the industry's convergence-driven consolidation will be relying upon proven and high-performance software products offered by industry specialists like Evolving Systems."

"Cox Communications' investment in an LNP product suite is further evidence of our ongoing commitment to becoming the nation's premier provider of voice, video and data services," said Dick Mueller, Vice President of Engineering Operations for Cox Communications. "Evolving Systems' cost- effective solutions and time-to-market implementation will give us an operational advantage over our competitors in the local access market."

More than 60 percent of all number porting activity in the United States is handled by Evolving Systems LNP infrastructure software. Number portability was mandated originally for wireline carriers by the federal Telecommunications Act of 1996, to allow customers to keep their existing telephone numbers when changing carriers. The mandate was later extended by the FCC to wireless carriers.
