Cox Communications released the following media statement in response to the announcement that Excite@Home filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and that AT&T plans to acquire Excite@Home's broadband access service

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 2001--Cox Communications regrets that Excite@Home, its high speed Internet service partner, has experienced financial difficulties that have forced it to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. While this news is disappointing, Cox anticipates that this measure will allow Excite@Home to continue business operations while reorganizing into a stronger, better performing entity.
