ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 2004--More than 1,200 Cox Communications employees donated nearly 5,000 hours of community service during Cox Connects Day, the company's national day of service benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of America. On October 16, the first-ever Cox Connects Day, Cox employees and their family members worked on a variety of projects including refurbishing computers, painting, tiling and landscaping.

Cox operations across the nation organized Cox Connects Day projects tailored to the needs of 50 local clubs that serve 50,000 children. Employees in Cleveland and Hampton Roads, Va., organized book drives and donated more than 2,100 books to area clubs. Volunteers in New Orleans designed and built an environmental education garden for their local club. In Las Vegas and Newport, R.I., volunteers gave two clubs extreme makeovers by painting, installing new carpet and re-wiring computer labs. Corporate employees at the company's headquarters in Atlanta built and installed benches for recreation areas and helped renovate a new teen activity area.

"We really appreciate the work of Cox employees and their families," said Bill Regehr, senior vice president of information technology for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. "Cox is a great partner and friend to our clubs - both in its ongoing support as a Technology Sponsor and in the hundreds of critical projects Cox volunteers completed for our clubs on Saturday. They have really provided a valuable model for volunteerism for corporate America."

Cox Connects Day is an extension of the company's technology partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs. To help bridge the digital divide, Cox wires many local clubs and provides them with free or discounted high-speed Internet and cable service, and other in-kind and cash contributions valued in the millions of dollars since the partnership began.

"This day has been a great way for us to give back to an organization that helps so many youth," said Pat Esser, chief operating officer for Cox Communications. "We've been involved with Boys & Girls Clubs for several years, and Cox Connects Day is a way to further our commitment. Our employees loved getting involved and making an impact."
