New Year Will Bring Converged Communications for Cox Digital Telephone Customers
More than 2 million customers choose Cox's telephone service over incumbent telephone provider
Atlanta, GA

ATLANTA – December 13, 2006 – Cox Communications, the pioneer of cable telephony, is preparing to change the telephone communications experience as it begins a widespread roll-out of its Phone Tools to more than 2 million Cox Digital Telephone customers. Phone Tools is a unique application that converges Cox's telephone and Internet technology for an enhanced communications experience. In the coming year, Cox will also converge telephone and video services.

“Cox's integrated functionality is making traditional telephone service a thing of the past,” said Mark Kaish, Cox's vice president of voice development and support. “With unique tools and enhanced functionality, we're adding value for our large base of bundled customers and making the Cox communications experience an even better – and easier – one.”

Phone Tools features an easy-to-use graphical user interface that allows customers to listen to voice mails online, manage call forwarding and other calling features, view their call history of incoming and outgoing calls and automatically forward copies of new voice mails to their email box – whether at home or any location with Internet service. Today, Cox's Phone Tools is available at no extra charge to customers in Gulf Coast and Central Florida, Lafayette and Baton Rouge, La., Middle Georgia and Roanoke, Va. who subscribe to both Cox Digital Telephone and Cox High Speed Internet. Phone Tools will be available in Cox's remaining markets the first half of 2007.

Cox will also converge telephone and video services in the coming year. Cox's Caller ID to the TV will allow customers who subscribe to digital cable and phone service the ability to see who's calling while watching television and also redirect incoming calls to voicemail or another telephone number, as they choose. Caller ID to the TV will be available in select markets in 2007.

Cox has a long history of innovation, and was the first U.S. cable company to deliver digital video, high-speed Internet and telephone service via a single network. Cox is improving its already winning, advanced broadband network to provide new products and service enhancements, such as Phone Tools and caller ID to the TV, that make customers' lives easier, more convenient and more enjoyable.

Today, more than 2 million households and 150,000 businesses rely on Cox Digital Telephone for quality and reliable telephone service. Cox does not transport phone calls through the public Internet. Rather, in some markets, Cox uses Voice over Internet Protocol technology to transport phone calls over a private, managed IP-based data network. With this architecture, a broadband connection is not required for Cox telephone service.
